Kerr: Fictitious claims result in higher rates for all

LITTLE ROCK – Arkansas Insurance Commissioner Allen Kerr today released the following statement following a guilty plea for felony insurance fraud by a Little Rock woman that resulted in probation, a fine and restitution order:

“More great work by our Criminal Investigation Division has resulted in another guilty plea for insurance fraud.  Filing fictitious claims result in higher insurance rates for all Arkansans.  AID will continue to fight insurance fraud on all fronts.”

Shannon White, 45, entered a plea of guilty to one count of insurance fraud, a Class D Felony. 

On January 8, 2009, White purchased a policy from AFLAC Insurance Company.  Throughout the period of March 10, 2010, to August 6, 2012, she submitted fictitious insurance claims forms which resulted in a cumulative amount of $3,000 in insurance benefits being wrongfully paid to her.

White, who entered the plea on April 14, was sentenced to five years of probation, a $200 fine, court costs, and was ordered to pay full restitution in the amount of $3,000 to AFLAC Insurance Company.  Sentencing was pursuant to Act 531.
