Second Dineen Award for Arkansas Insurance Department

LITTLE ROCK – Arkansas Insurance Commissioner Allen Kerr today released the following statement congratulating Deputy Commissioner Mel Anderson for receiving the Robert Dineen Award for Outstanding Service and Contribution to the State Regulation of Insurance from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) at its fall national meeting:

“Mel Anderson is the best kept secret in financial regulation across the nation.  He has been integral in recruiting new insurance business to Arkansas during my time as Commissioner.  This national award is a testament to the incredible professionalism exhibited by Mel and his Finance Division team on behalf of Arkansas insurance consumers.”

A 20-year veteran of the Arkansas Insurance Department, Anderson also served as Deputy Commissioner and Chief Examiner of the Indiana Department of Insurance.  He currently heads AID’s Finance Division as Deputy Commissioner for Financial Regulation.  The primary goal of the Finance Division is to protect Arkansas insurance consumers through effective solvency regulation.  This is performed by monitoring the financial condition of all domestic and foreign insurance companies in the state.

This marks the second time an Arkansas Insurance Department staff member has received the Dineen Award.  Former Insurance Commissioner Lenita Blasingame won the award in 2014.

ABOUT THE DINEEN AWARD
In June 1989, the NAIC established the Robert Dineen Award in honor of the founder of NAIC's Support and Services Office. The award is designed to honor a staff member of an insurance department who has made an outstanding contribution to state regulation of insurance, and exhibits an attitude and performs activities fostering the advancement of the insurance regulatory profession.
